Three cards from the deck, as you will see them in BrainBerry: the question, the answer, and an explanation of why.

Grammar

Which plural of feliz goes with unas niñas?

Answer

felices. feliz has one plural for both genders, and neither feliz nor felices is written with an accent.

Why

feliz is stressed on its last syllable and ends in z, so no accent is called for; felices is stressed on the second-to-last syllable and ends in -s, so again none is.

Vocabulary

Which adjectives mean better, worse, older and younger?

Answer

mejor, peor, mayor and menor.

Why

None of the four changes for gender; the plural simply adds -es. mayor also carries the sense 'main' or 'larger', and menor also means 'youngest'.

Vocabulary

Which article do nariz and voz take, and what is different about arroz?

Answer

la nariz and la voz are feminine; el arroz is masculine.

Why

Ending in -z fixes nothing about gender, so each noun has to be learnt with its article. In the plural the z becomes c: las narices, las voces.
