Three cards from the deck, as you will see them in BrainBerry: the question, the answer, and an explanation of why.
Component 1: Fitness and Body Systems
What do tendons join, and why does that matter for movement?
Answer
They join muscle to bone. When the muscle contracts, the tendon transfers the pulling force to the bone so the bone moves at the joint.
Why
Do not swap them over: tendons are muscle to bone, ligaments are bone to bone. The Achilles tendon joins the gastrocnemius to the heel.
Component 1: Fitness and Body Systems
What are the functions of the cardiovascular system?
Answer
Transport of oxygen, carbon dioxide and nutrients, clotting of open wounds, and regulation of body temperature.
Why
All three matter in a game: oxygen is delivered to the muscles, a cut is sealed so play can continue, and heat is carried to the skin so the body does not overheat.
Component 2: Health and Performance
What places a skill towards the complex end of the basic-complex continuum?
Answer
It needs many decisions and a lot of information to be judged and processed, so it takes longer to learn. A basic (simple) skill needs very few decisions.
Why
Jogging in a straight line is a basic skill; a tennis serve is complex. Complexity is about decision making, not about how tiring the skill is.
