Three cards from the deck, as you will see them in BrainBerry: the question, the answer, and an explanation of why.
Option 1B: Christianity
What is a passion play, and which part of the gospel story does it dramatise?
Answer
A play covering the last days of Jesus: the Last Supper, arrest, trial, crucifixion and resurrection, the events told in Matthew 26-28.
Why
The best known is at Oberammergau in Bavaria, staged by the villagers roughly every ten years since 1634, fulfilling a vow made during the plague of 1633. Passion plays are also performed in British city squares during Holy Week.
Option 2B: Christianity
Define the incarnation as Christians understand it.
Answer
God taking on human flesh: the eternal Son became a human being in Jesus Christ, fully God and fully human at the same time.
Why
'Incarnation' means becoming flesh. Christians do not teach that Jesus was half God and half human, nor that God only appeared to be human while really staying separate from human life.
Option 1A: Catholic Christianity
How does the Nicene Creed describe the Son's relationship to the Father?
Answer
As consubstantial with the Father - of one being with him - and as 'God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made'.
Why
'Consubstantial' means of the same substance, so the Son is fully God. 'Begotten, not made' rules out the idea that the Son is a created being.
