What do Catholics believe heaven is?
A state of eternal life in perfect happiness with God, in which a person sees God face to face. This is called the beatific vision.
Heaven is described as a relationship with God rather than a place in the sky, shared with the communion of saints. Catholics believe it is a gift of God's grace, not wages earned by good deeds.
What is sawm, and when is it performed?
Fasting from food, drink, smoking and sexual relations from dawn to sunset throughout the month of Ramadan.
Ramadan is the month in which Muslims believe the Qur'an was first revealed, on Laylat al-Qadr. Young children, the ill, travellers, and pregnant or breastfeeding women are exempt; missed days may be made up later.
Give two reasons why Catholics use music in worship.
It gives glory to God, and it helps worshippers to pray and to take part together in the liturgy.
A saying often attributed to St Augustine is that whoever sings prays twice. Music also sets the mood of a season, such as joyful at Easter and restrained in Lent.
