Three cards from the deck, as you will see them in BrainBerry: the question, the answer, and an explanation of why.

Scope of study

Give two ways students most often lose marks on the comparison question.

Answer

Writing about the two texts separately with no comparative link, and comparing only the content while ignoring the methods used to convey it.

Why

A third common loss is summarising both sources instead of analysing them. If the words 'whereas' or 'in contrast' never appear, the answer is probably not comparing.

Scope of study

What is synthesis when reading two texts together?

Answer

Drawing information from both texts and linking it, so each point sets what one text says beside what the other says.

Why

Two separate paragraphs, one per source, is not synthesis. Every point should reach across both sources in the same sentence or pair of sentences.

Scope of study

How do imperatives and a call to action finish a persuasive piece?

Answer

Command verbs - 'Sign it. Share it. Change it.' - tell the reader exactly what to do next, turning agreement into action and giving you a decisive final line.

Why

Place the call to action at the very end and keep it specific. Match its force to the form: a formal letter requests, a speech urges.
