Sample cards

Three cards from the deck, as you will see them in BrainBerry: the question, the answer, and an explanation of why.

Particle model of matter

Explain why decreasing the volume of a gas at constant temperature increases its pressure.

Answer

The same number of particles are now confined to a smaller space, so they collide with the walls more often, producing a greater pressure.

Why

The particles' average speed has not changed - only how often they hit the walls has changed.

Atomic structure

Give an alternative definition of half-life in terms of count-rate or activity.

Answer

The time taken for the count-rate (or activity) of a sample to fall to half its initial level.

Why

This definition is often more practical, since count-rate can be measured directly with a detector.

Electricity

What type of force acts between two charged objects that are not touching?

Answer

A non-contact force, called the electrostatic force, which acts through the electric field between them.

Why

Physics only. Like gravity and magnetism, the electrostatic force can act at a distance without the objects touching.

Past exam paper practice

Practise the June 2024 and 2025 AQA Physics papers question by question. Every question on the paper has its own set of BrainBerry flashcards and multiple-choice cards, testing the same content and skills, each with an explanation.
